Plein Air Painting in the Gila
with Chris Alverez
 |
August 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in Silver City, NM
There are works of art that are wonderful to behold because when viewed they take the viewer back to the moment in which they were created. It is a form of time travel. This is especially true with plein air paintings, because the work is done on site and directly from life. The artist is recording his or her experience devoid of any filters. The work is fresh, alive and has a sense of immediacy. In this workshop we will focus on the process of learning to see the world without mental judgment so that we can trust our eyes. In addition we will find out how to take that information and simplify it so as to interpret it quickly and accurately. This class will cover draftsmanship, composition, values, temperature and more. Although not required, drawing and painting experience would be helpful. Be prepared to work at the edge of control and your abilities while enjoying the process of plein air painting.
The workshop will be 8am to 4pm in locations near Silver City. Cost for three days is $250, with a $100 deposit due by July 1st. Pack a sack lunch as we will be on location. Refreshments of water and soft drinks will be provided. Wear layered clothing in neutral colors to be prepared for the changing temperatures during the day.
Please contact Valerie at 575 590 7554 or elementalarts@gourdweb.com with any questions.

Currenlty featuring:
Paintings by Deborah Hutchings
December 2007
It is from her studio in the wide-open space of New Mexico, that artist Deborah Hutchings draws much of the inspiration for her vivid, natural paintings. After many years living and painting in New England, it was time for a change to experience the grandeur of the mountains, desert and the golden colors. Her paintings reflect the serenity and beauty of her present surroundings of the Southwest and the sense of tranquility of her years in New England.
More examples of her work and additional information work can be found here.

A collaboration between Cochiti Pueblo artist Jonathon Loretto and Mata Ortiz artists Hector and Graciela Gallegos. The Gallegos won first place in the recent annual pottery contest in Mata Ortiz. Jonathon created an exclusive line of inlaid concho belts for Ralph Lauren. Oprah wore hers on the November 2004 "O" magazine cover.

Elemental Arts is proud to carry the work of Ana Lilia Granados Salinas and Luis Pacheco Vazquez.
Fine handcrafted jewelry expressing the cultural
traditions of the Copper Canyon region of Chihuahua, Mexico.
|
 |
Luis and Ana work as a team to create beautiful handmade silver jewelry.
They start by buying bullion from small underground mines near Batopilas in
Mexico's Copper Canyon country. They re-melt the silver and draw their own
wire and bands. The filigree and buttons are handformed , not cast. Their
goal is to preserve traditional silversmith techniques and the ancient
symbolism of prehistoric Mexico. This is beautiful, unique jewelry that must be seen in person!
